California 305 Regional Sprints
Record-Breaking 2025 Season Recap.....It's NOT Over Yet!
As we head into the final three races of the 2025 California Regional Sprint Car Series Presented by Quick Change Liquid Energy, it’s impossible not to look back and realize just how historic this comeback season has been.
From Antioch to Santa Maria, the 305 Sprint Cars haven’t just shown up, they’ve made history. We’ve raced at tracks where 305s had never turned a lap before 2025, seen thrilling battles, and even rewritten the record books.
The highlight? Track records.
On July 5th at Santa Maria Speedway, California’s 2017 IMCA RaceSaver state champion George Tristao Jr. in the No. 23T laid down a blistering 12.324-second lap in qualifying, a new 305 track record. That number isn’t just quick; it’s jaw-dropping. To put it in perspective:
• It was faster than USAC Midget driver Ricky Lewis’s quick time of 13.354 the same night.
• It even topped the Ultimate Sprint Car Series (USCS) non-wing quick time, a 13.412 by Kaleb Montgomery on August 9th.
Yes, you read that right. A 305 Sprint Car set a faster time than both Midgets and USCS non-wing sprints on the same dirt! That speaks volumes about the talent of our drivers, the strength of our cars, and the incredible surface prepared at SMS.
And the excitement hasn’t stopped there. This season we’ve had:
• 23 drivers have competed across 10 races so far.
• Car counts averaging 13 per night, with a high of 16 at the June 7th Vermeer Memorial at New Bakersfield Speedway. (And between us… I wouldn’t be surprised if that record gets broken before we’re done this year!)
• Big-money races, including $1,200 to win at the Vermeer Memorial (won by two-time state champ Kyle Rasmussen) and $1,000 to win at Santa Maria Speedway, where rookie Jeremy Alves earned his first-ever sprint car victory.
When Kings Speedway closed, CRS needed a home, and we believe we may have found it at Santa Maria Speedway, where the passion of Pat Cusak, Chad Weber, and the SMS crew has matched our own. They’ve not only given CRS a place to grow, but have also reignited the fan experience with giveaways, family-friendly fun, and that perfect coastal climate (75° at the track vs. 95° at home—who’s complaining?).
None of this would have been possible without the backing of Quick Change Liquid Energy. Mike Mitchell and Randy Wright believed in our vision from day one. More than sponsors, they’ve been hands-on supporters, jumping in to help teams, bringing passion from their own racing days, and even backing the legendary comeback of the Louie Vermeil Classic at Calistoga. Bringing back to good ol’ days, when tow money existed, everyone was hands on, and racers helped fellow racers. Their motto, “Racers Helping Racers,” isn’t just words, it’s action.
Looking ahead, CRS is already planning for 2026—new tracks, bigger opportunities, and stronger partnerships. On November 1st (tentative), we’ll host a drivers/owners meeting in Visalia to review 2025 and shape the vision for what’s next.
But before we get there, three more battles remain in 2025:
• September 13 – Santa Maria Speedway
• September 20 – Tulare
• October 4 – Santa Maria Speedway Season Finale
Our comeback year has already made history with record-breaking speed, thrilling finishes, and breakout stars. Now, it’s time to close it out with the same fire we’ve carried all season long.
